Meiji Shrine Forest Walk
Step through the massive torii gate and leave the chaos of Harajuku behind as you enter the 170-acre evergreen forest surrounding Meiji Shrine. The gravel path winds through towering camphor trees donated from across Japan, creating a cathedral-like canopy that filters the sunlight into something magical. Visit the main shrine hall, write wishes on wooden ema plaques (small fee for the plaque, but exploring is free), and discover the serene iris garden. The contrast between the ancient forest and the city just beyond the treeline makes this feel like entering another world entirely.
